History
R. A. Walton & Co Inc
Walton & Company was formally founded on April 21, 1989, when Brian Kottcamp (an estimator) and Dick Walton (a plumber), and four other employees set up shop in an old warehouse on Girard Avenue in York.
The company started out primarily in the HVAC side of mechanical contracting, which included duct fabrication at the Girard Avenue facility utilizing used equipment. By the end of the first year, the company had grown to about 25 employees and approximately $700,000 in revenue. Over the next several years the company expanded into plumbing as well as residential work. The residential side was eventually abandoned to allow for the growth of the commercial, industrial, and institutional customer base.
The next milestone came in 1994 with the move to the current main office location at 1800 Industrial Highway at the site of the former Coyne Laundry. This site served as the corporate office, the warehouse, and the duct fabrication shop. The company had grown to about 50 employees and $7.5 million in revenues at the end of that year.
As the company grew, and the duct fabrication side needed room to grow with it, the metal fab shop moved to a state-of-the-art 36,600 sq ft facility on Concord Road in 1996. This move provided more warehouse space on Industrial Highway as well as a more suitable location to expand the fabrication capabilities for both company projects and outside customers. The Concord facility includes a coil line, multiple plasma tables, a spiral machine, a pipe pre-fab shop, and a specialty fabrication area. Ductwork output is routinely in the 2,000,000 pounds/year range and continues to grow.
Walton’s service department has always been an integral part of the company’s success and its growth facilitated the opening of an office in Maryland in 2010 with a total company fleet of nearly 100 skilled service technicians.
Design/Build work was at the heart of Walton and Company in 1989 and continues to be at the heart today with a team that includes Engineers licensed in multiple states, LEED-certified designers, and a virtual design department that is second to none. Technology includes powerful computers, 3D software, a Trimble Total Station for layout support, and a Faro 3D scanner that allows for the surveying of existing buildings at the rate of approximately 1,000,000 points per second.
Walton and Company continues to grow and is the premier Mechanical Contractor in central Pennsylvania and northern Maryland with 230 employees and an annual volume of nearly $60,000,000.
We look forward to the continued success and growth of the company and our employees.
