Most people understand what an engineer or architect does, but ask about sheet metal workers, plumbers, HVAC technicians, or building automation specialists, and the picture isn’t as clear. Yet without them, a building is just concrete and steel.
Take sheet metal, for example. Our Sheet Metal team are the ones who design, fabricate, and install the ductwork that lets buildings breathe. They’re the reason a classroom stays comfortable on a freezing January morning and why hospital air systems deliver clean, safe airflow to patients. Their work is often hidden above ceilings or behind walls, but it’s essential to every person who steps inside.
Plumbing is just as vital. A plumber’s work goes far beyond fixing leaks—it’s about designing and installing systems that provide safe water, efficient drainage, and reliable sanitation for entire buildings. When something fails, life comes to a standstill until a skilled tradesperson steps in.
HVAC technicians ensure that heating and cooling systems work seamlessly, keeping environments comfortable and efficient year-round. And in today’s world, building automation specialists bring it all together, integrating smart systems that allow facilities to run with precision and energy savings in mind.
Apprenticeship Growth at Walton
That’s why Walton continues to invest in apprenticeships—the pathway to keeping these essential trades alive. Our apprentices commit to:
- 8,000 hours of on-the-job training
- Four years of classroom instruction
- Earning a credential that’s recognized across the industry
This year, we’re excited to welcome 8 new apprentices—4 in HVAC and 4 in Plumbing—bringing our total to 27 Walton apprentices who are actively learning, training, and building their futures.
Because of this growth, our apprenticeship program is currently full. But for those ready to step into the trades, we are hiring:
- Experienced Plumber/Foreman
- Experienced Service Technician
- Virtual Design Technician (Mechanical Designer)
- Sheet Metal Foreman
- Sheet Metal Journeyman/Mechanic
