John Silar–PM

After completing a tour of service with the United States Army, John began his career in the mechanical trades as a plumbing apprentice.  After completing his apprenticeship, he began working with Walton & Company in 1990 as a Plumbing Foreman.  After many years of working in the field as a foreman, he moved into estimating, and eventually began working as a Project Manager.

The elements of his work that keeps him motivated as a Project Manager are the ever-changing work environments, job locations, and the opportunities to learn about different types of manufacturing processes that affect some of his projects. The majority of his projects here at Walton focus on tenant fit-outs.  These projects are very fast paced and meeting the needs of the tenant and general contractor can be challenging, but it is the priority.  For John, the ability to “think on his feet,”  “anticipate the next need for the project be it manpower, weather, project changes,”  and the improvement of technology, “moving from the days of a beeper and pay phone to today’s world of texting and email, all help keep his projects on schedule and within budget.

John is a lifelong resident of York County and is a proud Father of two college students.  His personal passion is skiing.  Not only does he enjoy the thrill of downhill and backcountry skiing, but he also serves as a member of the National Ski Patrol whose creed is that of service and safety.  A perfect, challenging, ski day for John would be skiing Tuckerman Ravine on the Southeast face of Mt. Washington, in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
